Andrew James Digital Food Thermometer with Probe -50°C to 200°C Magnetic Storage - For Cooking Freezing Jam Making Beer Brewing etc

Achieve better results and ensure your food is thoroughly cooked with the Andrew James Digital Probe Thermometer. Simply insert the probe into the food to be tested and read the temperature from the display. Because the temperature probe is on a cable you can even put it inside the fridge or oven with the door pushed to and take a reading you know isn’t being influenced by the external temperature.

This thermometer will read temperatures between -50˚C and 200˚C allowing you to take readings on frozen food as well as items that are freshly cooked. The handheld unit has a clear digital display so you can easily read the temperature shown. If you prefer to deal with the imperial farenheit system rather than metric centigrade you can use the button on the main device to switch between units of measurement.

If you need to you can measure the maximum and minimum temperature of either a food item, fridge, freezer or oven over time. Place the probe into the item to be measured and leave it for the required amount of time. Press the MAX/MIN button on the unit to show the maximum reading then press it again to show the minimum.

To make it easy to use this thermometer we have included a flip out stand so you can place the unit down on a table or worktop and therefore only require one hand to insert the probe. Alternatively you can use the magnetic strip on the back of the unit to secure it to any metal surface whilst you reading a temperature. This thermometer is battery operated and required a single AAA battery (included).

I bought this item December 2014 and have used it only for measuring temperature of milk to make Greek yogurt at most once every ten days. That is not heavy use. From August 2016, it began to give erratic readings, jumping from, say 85 degrees F. to 130, then down to 40, then up again – all over the place. Today, end of Sept. 2016, it failed completely, giving me a row of “Fs” after going from high readings to as low as minus 50. My husband is an engineer. He checked the batteries – no problem there. For a little while, the probe worked again, but is again erratic. I cannot trust it. It is within the 2 year wrranty, but I am in Portugal, and returning things after this period and at this distance will be a huge hassle. I know other food probes also randomly fail, so this is not a unique problem. Just be aware. I am told solid state thermometers (no separate block with wired probe) are more robust, and I have seen recommendation for the German brand Weber online. Will search for one, as I am a serious cook and cannot take chances!

Ordered Friday, dispatched Sunday, arrived Monday. Test it for calibration against kettle steam and ice cube, seems pretty accurate. Easy to use little item, will come in very handy for our mobile catering business. Have only given 4 stars as reliability will only be proved with time. Seems a good purchase.
