2 NHAR Christmas Open House: The Paws and Shop Thrift Store, 2806 Putnam Ave., Hurricane, will host a Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. today and again on Friday, Nov.

3, and Saturday, Nov.

4. Christmas-related items such as trees, dishes, ornaments, indoor and outdoor decorations, cookie jars, linens and collectibles will be available, as will door prizes and refreshments.

3 Putnam School Screenings: Putnam County Schools will conduct developmental screenings at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church on Teays Valley Road in Hurricane. Children ages 2-1/2 to 4 will be screened in the areas of speech/language, hearing, vision, motor skills, social skills, self-help and cognition.

4 Eleanor Arts & Crafts Show: The 25th annual Eleanor Arts and Crafts Show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eleanor Fire Department.

Vendor space is available; contact Linda Sayre at 304-937-3427 for further information. Fall Bazaar: The Church of the Ascension Woman’s Club will hold its annual bazaar at the church on Hickory Mills Road in Hurricane. Vendors, crafts and food will be available from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Proceeds will be used for the club’s efforts to provide weekend backpacks of food for 60 children from a local elementary school. Forrest Burdette Festival: The United Methodist Women of Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Ave., Hurricane, will sponsor a fall festival and annual arts, crafts and books event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafters and vendors with a wide variety of merchandise, including dolls, jewelry, wood items, hand-crafted bags, unique fabric gifts and much more will be on sale.

Baked goods and candies, hot dogs and drinks will also be for sale. PHS Show Choir Fall Fest: The Poca High School Visual Volume show choir will have its annual fall fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Main Street in Poca. The event will include crafters, vendors, a motorcycle/car show, cow chip bingo and food trucks.

Community Health Screenings: Marshall Health-Teays Valley and the Putnam Rotary will sponsor community health screenings from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the First State Bank, 3754 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane.

A variety of health screenings will be available at free or reduced rates, including a basic metabolic panel (£30), thyroid-stimulating hormone (£10), prostate-specific antigen (£10), A1C test (£10) and blood pressure checks (complimentary). Longaberger Basket Bingo: The Buffalo High School Music Boosters will host a Longaberger Basket Bingo event to raise funds to support the “Band of Blue” marching band and the show choir. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Games begin at 6 p.m. Participants must be 18 years old or older to play. The cost is £20 if pre-registered or £25 at the door.

WVU Bus Trip: RJ Tours will offer round-trip bus transportation to and from Morgantown for the West Virginia University-Iowa State football game. The bus will leave the Kanawha City Kmart parking lot at 10 a.m. Soft drinks, bottled water and other refreshments and gifts are provided on the smoke- and alcohol-free bus.

The ceremony will feature tributes to men and women who have worn their country’s uniform through the years. The program will be presented on the courthouse parking lot, featuring music by the Winfield High School Band, recognition of veterans present, and flag-folding ceremonies featuring the Marine Corps League. The special guest speaker will be Col.
