PHD Chamber urges SC to review decision to ban pet coke & furnace oil

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed to the government to file a review petition before the Supreme Court so that it reviews its decision to impose a ban on usage of pet coke and furnace oil in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Anil Khaitan, the Chamber’s president, said, “The micro-, small and medium enterprise (MSME) segment is highly concerned and aggrieved by the order passed on October 24, 2017, as this sudden ban, giving the industry only seven days’ time to make alternate arrangements will certainly impact the working of industry in the National Capital Region (NCR) Region, particularly MSMEs such as bakeries, hotels, milk chilling plants, health services and the agro and food industry, who are in the manufacturing of various products and services and have small boilers.”

Informing that the earlier deadline given by the apex court was December 31, 2017, he added, “In the absence of alternate measures, this is the final nail in the coffin of the MSMEs, who are already fighting for survival because of the slowdown in the economy, and the ban will render lakhs of workers jobless and result in the closure of thousands of small- and medium-scale industries.”

Therefore, Khaitan advised the ministry of environment as well as the Central Pollution Control Board to jointly file the review petition before the Supreme Court, urging the apex body to review its decision, so that relief is served to the concerned stakeholders.
