NorthTown H&M store set for Nov. 16 opening

Swedish clothing retailer H&M is opening a store in NorthTown Mall on Nov.

16. It’s the second Spokane-area location for the retailer, which opened a Spokane Valley Mall store in 2012. Founded as Hennes & Mauritz, the retailer is known for its high-quality, affordable fashions and its commitment to sustainably produced clothing, said Patrick Shaner, an H&M spokesman.

H&M[1] sells clothing for newborns to adults. Its fashions range from “street style” to “classic, tailored,” Shaner said. The stores sell lines of athletic wear and business suits, he said.

H&M encourages shoppers to bring in old clothing, which is recycled into products such as insulation, or resold to secondary markets. The recycling effort diverted more than 2 million tons of clothing and other textiles from U.S. landfills last year. “We’re trying to be a leader in the industry,” Shaner said. “By 2030, we’re going to have all our clothes made from sustainable sources or recycled materials.”

People already can find clothes with green tags at H&M stores, which incorporate recycled textiles or sustainably sourced fabrics, he said. The NorthTown Mall store will occupy 23,000 square feet and employ about 20 people. For the store’s noon opening Nov.

16, the first 200 customers in line will receive fashion passes valued at £10 to £300, Shaner said. People who bring clothes to recycle on opening day also can enter a drawing for gift cards. Regular store hours will be 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

H&M has 12 other stores in Washington and two each in Montana and Idaho.
