Coast Line: Capitola Planning Commission to review library plans

Planning Commission to review library plans

Parking will be one of the topics when the Capitola Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 420 Capitola Ave., to review the proposal to build a new branch library[1]. Plans call for a 11,700-square-foot building at 2005 Wharf Road, replacing one that is 4,300 square feet, and retaining the outdoor play area for young children.

The new facility would include a community room, homework room, teen space and a larger children’s area, with 40 parking spaces on site and four spaces on Clares Street. Currently there are 51 parking spaces; only 14 are required. Kimley-Horn’s traffic study found neighbors have been using the library parking but concluded 44 spaces should suffice if the city ensures the library lot is reserved for patrons and employees.

Also on the agenda: Closing the Grand Avenue pathway between Oakland Avenue and Hollister Avenue due to bluff failure after the winter storms and a permit for a car wash proposed by property owner Akhtar Javed at Chevron Gas, 836 Bay Ave. If you have a news event or announcement for Coast Lines, email and place “Coast Lines” and the date of your event in the email subject line.
