Business owners from California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Montana will host discussions in Great Falls and Helena Wednesday on the Interior Department review of national monuments.

The round table discussions will feature business owners and outdoor industry leaders from across the region.

The purpose is to highlight impacts western businesses say they would face if national monument protections are changed, said Business for Montana’s Outdoors and the Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance, which are hosting the talks.

The groups opposes changes to monument protections.

President Donald Trump, citing abuses by past presidents using executive orders under Antiquities Act to create national monuments, called for the review of monuments of at least 100,000 acres created since 1996.

It included the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument in Montana.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, a Montana native, is leading the review.

Zinke has since announced that some of the monuments no longer are being considered for changes. That includes the Breaks monument in Montana.

The discussions held in Helena and Great Falls will feature an overview of the Western outdoor economy and a panel discussion from regional business leaders.

The Helena meeting is 10 a.m. to 11 a..m at Reeder’s Alley, 120 Reeder’s Alley.
